An aircraft maintenance engineer or team of engineers needs to plan how work will be performed. The process begins by gathering and understanding all information relating to the task. This includes checking if any information highlights a change associated with the task (e.g. the way something should be done, the tools to be used, the components or parts involved). Someone within the maintenance organization responsible for disseminating information should take on this role. Supervisors can play an important role by ensuring that the engineers within their team have been briefed of and understood any communicated information.
