Boeing analyzed the most common errors behind in-flight shutdowns:
- 33% of the in-flight shutdowns are caused by incomplete installation
- 14.5% are caused by damage on installation
- 11% by improper installation
- a further 11% of the in-flight shutdowns are caused by equipment not installed or missing
- 6.5% are caused by foreign object damage
- and improper troubleshooting causes another 6%.
When you look at these numbers you see that almost 70% of all in-flight shutdowns were traced back to installation problems. This is quite an impressive number. However, only 6% of the errors were created when the technician was troubleshooting. What do you think? Could this be because troubleshooting is a task requiring more attention and may be more challenging?
